How much does it cost?
Nothing. Searching, messaging and listing are free, and El Barrio takes no cut of the rent.
How do I contact a host?
Create an account, open the room and tap Send inquiry. Tell them who you are, your dates and whether you're coming alone or with someone. The conversation is kept in Inquiries.
If the host has added their WhatsApp, you can also message them directly with Contact on WhatsApp.
Who can see my phone number?
- If you're looking for a room: nobody, until you tap Share my WhatsApp in a conversation. Only that person sees it.
- If you're a host: anyone who's signed in can see your number from your listings, so they can message you on WhatsApp.
Who can see my profile?
Anyone can see your name, photo, where you're from, the languages you speak and when you arrived in Australia. Your age, occupation, budget, dates and other details are only visible to people you have a conversation with. More in the privacy policy.
How do I list my room?
Tap List a room and follow the five steps: the house, the rooms, photos, price and conditions. You can list several rooms in the same house at once.
We only ask for the suburb and postcode, never the street address. The map shows the approximate area.
I've rented the room. What now?
In My dashboard, open the listing's menu and choose Mark as rented. It stops showing in search, and you can republish it when it's free again. You can also delete the listing.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen tap Forgot it? and we'll email you a link to set a new one.
Something doesn't feel safe
Never pay a bond or rent before seeing the room and signing an agreement. Read the safety tips.
If a listing, profile or conversation looks suspicious, tap Report listing, Report user or Report conversation. Reports are confidential and we review every one. You can also email us at admin@elbarrio.online.
How do I delete my account?
In Edit profile, at the bottom of the page, choose Delete my account and confirm with your email. Your profile, listings, conversations and saved rooms are deleted, and it can't be undone.
